AboutFace is a record of a time and place, a way of both eulogizing the present – and a way to look forward. The roundabout is a pivot into the college, with multiple paths crossing from classroom to dorm to lab. On this roundabout we place a drum with profiles of people at the school – anyone who signed up can get their profile placed there – a welcoming committee to all who visit or stay.
Walczak & Heiss set up a photo session at the school to take profiles of all who liked to participate. We transformed the photos into vector-based outlines ready to be cutout from steel.
64 laser-cut ‘totems’ were assembled on a cylindrical structure, all made from weathering steel. The totems consist of 259 profiles of students, teachers & staff at Wayne State College, NE
